Brief (around 300 words) personality outline of your character:
If one were to call Rey in one word, it would be an ‘Aristocrat.’ If he were in a Political Race, he’s the one to look out for. He is a gentleman, polite, calm and charismatic in his own quiet way. He is the very opposite of the hero of the series, Shinn Asuka. While Shinn is impulsive and headstrong, Rey is patient and always thinks things through before making a move. He is the kind of guy that you can rely to follow orders to the letter.
In the beginning, one would be led to believe that Rey is a good person. On the first episode, he had protected his fellow ZAFT colleague, Lunamaria Hawke, when she was about to get hurt by a mobile suit that was about to hit them. He, along with Shinn Asuka fought against the Phantom Pain, whom were stealing the three GUNDAMS (Chaos, Abyss and Gaia). When Stellar Loussier, the pilot of the Gaia, was held as their hostage, he helped Shinn return her to the Earth Alliance Forces, knowing very well that they would be severely punished.
Because of his mature demeanor and quiet ways, people are easily manipulated by him. At first glance, he looks like a person you can trust. In fact, Shinn considers Rey someone closest to him in ZAFT. When Shinn impulsively thinks of something foolish, Rey will calmly try to reason with him.
However, he is a person that has no qualms at all manipulating his best friend if it means reaching his goal. Nor does he have qualms in killing an ally if they are getting in the way. Knowing Meyrin Hawke was with Athrun Zala in the mobile suit when he deflected from ZAFT hadn’t stopped Rey from shooting him down. All obstacles had to be destroyed. It is because he sees people like things. They are easily replaced. In the series, the audience will notice that Rey can skillfully and subtly convince Shinn into doing what he wants. With his true character and cold-heartedness revealed it is easy to think of Rey… not as a hero but a ‘villain.’
He convinced Shinn that making the Destiny Plan a reality was the right thing to. To win Shinn’s trust, he had revealed his origins. That was something he had never done before, because his past had always been a well-hidden secret. The cloning project and Ultimate Coordinator Project were top secret information. It only goes to show that he’s go through many lengths to win. When in pain and in need of his medications, he isn’t himself. He acts almost crazy.
While he is very calm and collected when around other people, he brightens when Gilbert Durandal is around. He is extremely loyal to Durandal, the man that practically raised him. He is the closest thing to a father he ever had. When he shot Athrun down, he said, “I will not allow you to betray Gilbert.” Even though he knew that he didn’t have long to live, he chose to use the remainder of that short life to carry out Durandal’s plans.
Rey knew that he didn’t have long to live. He was a Clone of Al Da Flaga, like Rau Le Creusset and Prayer Reverie (From Astray). There were side effects from the cloning, and because of those effects he didn’t have long to live. Since he is simply a clone, he doesn’t see himself any different from Rau Le Creusset and Al Da Flaga. That means in everything he did, he saw the shadow of Rau and Al not too far from him. However, he is different from Rau. His motivation for supporting the Destiny Plan aside from his loyalty to Durandal is for the improvement of man. He probably wanted to help in making the world a better place before dying.
At the last episode, the audience will finally see that Rey does have a heart. He had every reason to kill Kira Yamato. The man had killed Rau and he was getting in the way of the Destiny Plan. But Kira’s words touched Rey, saying that he had his own future that didn’t have to be the same as Rau’s… later, his passion for a future that was their own. Knowing all his life that he was a clone, Rey had been deprived of any dreams for a future. Surprising even Durandal, he shot the man whom he always considered as a father. He stayed in the Messiah, knowing that it was about to explode. Talia Gladys stayed as well. The last thing he muttered before the explosion was, ‘mother.’
Brief (around 500 words) history and background of your character OR link to a really good wiki page with their history. In either case, explain where they cut off from the timeline:
Gundam Wiki
Rey is taken from Post-series (Gundam Seed Destiny).
A bit of his history was revealed on the episode where he convinces Shinn to fight for Durandal for the Destiny Plan before the Battle of Messiah. It is revealed that he isn’t an average Coordinator. He is a clone of Mwu La Flaga’s father, Al Da Flagga (A politician from the Atlantic Federation), like Rau Le Creusset. Before the creation of Kira Yamato, he was one of the many experiments Ulen Hibiki did to fund the Ultimate Coordinator project.
However, there were side effects in their creation.
Rey suffers from a lot of pain and cannot survive without taking medications… like Rau Le Creusset did in the first series. He has known all his life that he is a clone, and because of that he knew that he didn’t have a future.
Other than this, there is very little information about Rey. He doesn’t talk much about himself and it takes a lot to get anything out from him. We don’t know where he grew up, how he was raised or the things he did before he enlisted to ZAFT.
Sample post (just a general, everyday, puttering-around-the-ship post; please include a snippet of dialogue):
In an empty corridor of the ship, a blond young boy was making his way towards his room. His colleagues were busy at the Mess Hall, having dinner. You could even hear the boisterous noise of laughter and shouting. Nobody even noticed when Rey za Burrel excuse himself and walk out of the room.
Leaving early was nothing unusual for Rey, being a very private person. But, there was something wrong. When he was sure that no one was around, one hand went against the wall trying to support his weak body, while the other hand was unbuttoning the first two buttons of his uniform to help him breathe.
His medications. He needed----
He needed those pills.
Each step he took made him feel like he was dying. Each breath he took made him wish it was his last. His eyes bulged as he began grinding his teeth, trying to ignore the pain. His breathing began to become more labored, and his hands shaking.
Gulping air into his lungs, he desperately continued to reach the quarters he shared with Shinn. He needed to arrive there before everyone returned from their dinner.
Finally reaching their sleeping quarters, he opened the door and fell inside the room. By now, he has a dangerously crazy and desperate look in his eyes.
“Where?--- Where?!“ he thought, in between gasping for breath.
His hands began feeling under the mattress, looking for the small container with his medications. When his hand felt the small bottle, he pulled it out and very quickly popped the pills into his mouth. Slowly, he seemed to calm down. The crazy look slowly replaced by his usual calm countenance. He pushed the pill bottle back under the mattress, and leaned back against the cold steel of his bed frame.
As if on cue, the others began milling back. One of the maintenance people looking for Shinn entered, and seeing Rey on the floor he asked, “Hey, Rey. Are you alright? What are you doing on the floor?”
Rey gave his usual calm face and gave a polite nod. “I am alright.” It wasn’t a lie. He was alright for now. He stood up and began buttoning up his uniform. “You are looking for Shinn, aren’t you? I will help you find him.”
“Thanks, Rey. You’re a pal!”
The blonde gave him a smile, but a very dead one. “No problem.” He exited the room, his thoughts going to the pills under his mattress that he depended so much. Moments later, he pushed those thoughts back. He had no time to think about that. He still had his duties to do.
If the character has magic, mutant, or otherwise metahuman abilities, please explain what they are and outline EXACTLY how they function, as their powers may not work due to the nature of the ship or may need to be limited somehow:
None.
Non-superhuman special abilities of note (Is your character a master ventriloquist? A naturally-occurring super-genius? The best martial artist in the world? Say so here):
Rey is a Clone like Rau Le Creuset. Rau was a man from the original Gundam Seed series that was bent on having man kind destroy one another. The side effects in cloning are the abnormalities in their DNA. This affects the aging of the clones. For their pain, they need their medications.
He is a talented concert pianist. The boy is a clone, but it isn’t sure if clone have all the capabilities of a Coordinator. It isn’t sure if it is a natural gift or he had studied to learn it before the series.
In the first series, Mwu la Flaga had a strange ability to sense when Rau was near. Here, Neo/Mwu would be able to sense when Rey is around.
Like Rau, he is a reliable pilot. In the beginning of the series, he is seen piloting a ZAKU. Later, he was given the Gundam that was meant for Athrun, the ZGMF-X666S Legend Gundam, improved version of ZGMF- X13A Providence Gundam.
