» CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character NAME: Alto Saotome
Canon & MEDIUM: Macross Frontier~Sayonara no Tsubasa (Movie)
Canon PULL-POINT: Post-Movie (False Diva)
Character AGE: 17 → 18
Character ABILITIES:

Pilot a Jetpack-

In the beginning of the movie, Alto is introduced as a high school student in the Mihoshi Academy Pilot Training course. He was one of their best flyers and was even one of the pilots chosen to perform aerobatics and fly in Sheryl Nome's concert.

His skill can be seen in the scene where Sheryl adlibbed and jumped off the stage. He was able to catch her and even adlibbed along with her.

Pilot a Fighter-

Ozma saw Alto's potential as a pilot when he replaced one of their original pilots. Despite having no real training, he was able to move and fight with the machine.

Paper Plane Folding-

It makes sense to have a hobby like this. He is so fascinated by the sky, but he also uses this hobby to analyze the wind speed and direction to check if it is ideal for flying.

Kabuki and Can convincingly dress like a girl-

Before he was a pilot, he had been groomed to be a Kabuki actor and was complimented to be one of the best. Michel teased him for being, "The Genius Actress, Alto-Hime." His family was famous in their world to be a Kabuki family. As a Kabuki actor, he can not only dance he can act graceful and feminine-like. He is so good at it that Ranka even thought about asking him to teach her how to be more feminine.

The fact that he got lucky in the genetic lottery and inherited his mother's good looks helped.

Character HISTORY: Macross Wiki || Wikipedia

Character PERSONALITY: This is where you'll describe your character's personality. It is important to focus on your character's motivations and their goals, as well as their behaviour in any given situation and their interactions with canonmates. We would like a minimum of three full-length paragraphs, as this is easily the most important aspect of your character.

Most of the time, Alto is quiet and keeps to himself. He is aloof and standoffish, but though he is not very good at showing his sensitive side he always has very good intentions. He can always be found by himself staring at the sky or making paper airplanes. He had very few friends too because he is not good at being around other people since he had been isolated most of his life. When he does speak, Alto says what he feels. If there was something he didn't like, he would say it in a very straight-forward way. This made him very difficult to approach since he sometimes can sound rude.

His friendship with Michel can be quite confusing. He is clearly irritated by him since he flirts with him like he was a woman, at the same time when he saw Michel almost getting killed he showed genuine concern. With Ranka, he is very kind and sees her as a sibling. Sheryl was a confusing girl to him at first and had a hard time deciding who she really was. Was she the Galactic Fairy who graced the stage and shined like a star? Or was she the playful, innocent girl that just wanted to play around and see/try everything around her?

He was bred to take over the Saotome Kabuki school. That meant he had to shine as a Kabuki actor and he did. He received the title of 'Genius Actrss, Alto-Hime.' His life had been already decided for him. However, despite his flourishing career he chose to leave the life of a Kabuki actor and pursue his dream of flying. Going against his father and breaking tradition.

That wasn't the only reason he left though. He felt that he was beginning to lose himself. He lost himself in the different roles he had to play. He didn't know who he was anymore or even whether he was a man or a woman. It was overwhelming. This implied that Alto was a Method Actor. Losing oneself to the character is actually a common occurrence in Method Acting because it involves becoming the character. It is a challenge to bring yourself back.

Alto has what almost every Mecha protagonist had. He had the 'Hero Syndrome' or the 'Idiot Pilot Who Acts Without Thinking.' And he might not be good at making friends, but he is very caring to the very few friends he had. When he saw Ranka (his childhood friend) in trouble, he immediately placed himself in front of her to protect/shield her and Ozma forgetting his own safety during the Vajra's first attack on the Frontier.

There had always been two clear things about Alto. #1 was his desire to keep his friends safe. #2 is his desire to fly in a real sky. A sky without limits. The sky in the Frontier upsets him because it is a simulated sky, which meant it wasn't real and also meant that it had limits.

» PREVIOUS GAME INFORMATION ( IF APPLICABLE )
Previous GAME(s): Please tell us which game (or games) your character will be coming into Exsilium from.
Previous GAME SETTING(s): We'd like to see a short blurb here that explains the setting of the game (or games) that your character is coming in from. It doesn't need to be that long, but we'd like to know the short of it: the premise, the plot, and what the world was like there.
Previous GAME CR: Here is where we would like to know which characters (canonmates and otherwise) your character will be remembering upon their entrance to Exsilium. PLEASE REMEMBER that you MUST have permission from the players in game who play these canonmates to remember their character--other players must opt-into allowing your character to recognize them and their memories.
Your character's DEVELOPMENT: This is the most important part of this section, so we are looking for thoroughness! Please give us an idea of the events that occurred in your character's previous game memories and what effect that has had on their personality; what changes have occurred that would make your character different from their canon interpretation? What effect will this have on canonmates, and why? This should be a minimum of two paragraphs.

[ Video; Public ]

[ The video blinks on and the onlooker will be greeted by a very good-looking face. The good-looking face was also looking very angry too. A good-looking face of what might appear to belong to a woman ---

--- the voice said differently though. The voice definitely belonged to a man.

It might seem a little unnerving. A face belonging to an angry woman, but had a voice that belonged to a very angry man. ]

Michel! You bastard!

Stop joking around!

[ Suddenly, he drops the device and the viewers can see the little kids that were climbing all over him. Some of them were clinging to his arms, while others were pulling on his hair. One little girl had her arms around one of his legs. ]

Oi, oi, oi! Let go---!

Michel!!

Wow, big sister's hair is so pretty! Is it real?

Ow-ow-ow! Yes, that is my real hair! Now, stop that! Who're you calling BIG SISTER?!

Third PERSON: We would like to see a prose example of your character's actions within the setting of Exsilium. It can be their arrival, or something set a few days, weeks, or months down the road into their stay. What we are looking for here is their own personal motivations, their thoughts, and their personal introspection. Must be a minimum of two full-length paragraphs. Links to previous posts and threads with this character may be provided if you are an existing player in game (if the sample is linked, there is no need for it to be set within Exsilium). If you are new to Exsilium, please provide newly written samples.
As of March 2013, the Third Person sample may now be linked from the Test Drive Meme, whether you're a new or current player.

Not surprisingly, Alto had disappeared from his room again. He had never been one to stay indoors for very long. He didn't like the feeling of being confined. It reminded him too much of his isolated and lonely childhood in the Saotome Kabuki School while under the tutelage of his father.

Where was he?

He was on the roof working on his jetpack and launcher. He had accidentally crashed into a tree after trying to save a little girl from getting run over by a truck on his first day and the wing had broken off. For the rest of the week, he spent most of his time working on fixing it. He ate little and slept little because he didn't want to waste time.

You might wonder why he was in such a hurry to fix it. The reason is quite simple actually. It is because of the sky. His excitement came from knowing that the sky was the sky without limits that he had always dreamed about. And today, he was almost finished.

It was perfect timing to, because the wind was just right. The sun wasn't too hot either. It was the ideal time to fly. This only drove him to work faster. Another hour later, he was done. This became one of the rare times that Alto really smiled.

He looked up to the sky and saw that the sun was lower now and he would probably lose more light if he lingered any longer.

"Good," he muttered as he began to set up. When he was done, he counted down in his head.

"Go!" With that, his launcher started up and catapulted him to the sky ... to finally taste what it felt like to be ... limitless.
